Updated on Jan 22, 2024

The Uganda visa on arrival is no longer available since July 2016 for anyone, not just Australian citizens. The Ugandan government decided to eliminate and replace it with electronic visas. As a result, all travelers who wish to enter Uganda need to have a Uganda e-visa or a visa issued by a Ugandan embassy. Otherwise, you will be sent back to Australia. Even if visas on arrival cannot be obtained anymore, the electronic visa system is a lot easier to use, which is why we advise you to apply online using the services of iVisa.

In order to help you out with this e-Visa, we have brought you some useful information so you can easily apply.

Which Uganda visa types are there for Australian passport holders?

There are 3 types of visa for Australian citizens: The tourist eVisa, which is the most requested, the transit e-Visa and the East Africa Visa. The last one is used not only to use in Uganda but for other countries in East Africa as well.

If Visa is approved, does this guarantee my admission to Uganda?

The admission is made at the point of entry or at an Immigration Office, so these authorities are the ones who have the last decision. Remember that if you’re outside Uganda, it’s mandatory to present a valid visa approval letter. There are no other documents that allow you to enter this country.

How can I apply for a Uganda e-Visa for Australian citizens?

The process that iVisa has created could not be more straightforward. All you have to do is to provide them with some basic information about yourself and some documents. You fill in the application form, and then iVisa will take care of everything for you. Your efforts are minimal. Here is what you need to provide:

  • Passport – all foreigner citizens must have a valid passport, and it needs to remain valid for at least another 6 months from your date of arrival in Uganda.
  • Copy of your passport’s bio page
  • A passport-sized photo – as recent as possible
  • Vaccination certificate for Yellow fever – failure to comply means that you will be subjected to vaccination when you arrive in Uganda. Some quarantine measures may be taken as well.

When you apply for a Uganda Transit visa, you also need a letter which states the transit reason and the destination, and if you want an East Africa visa, you must also provide an itinerary and a return flight ticket.

Once you have all that in order, you can move on to the Uganda e-visa application form.

What are the processing times and prices of a Uganda e-Visa?

One of the main issues about electronic visas is the cost, but that's not the case with iVisa since we work hard to offer you three available options with good prices according to your needs. When it comes to processing time the price will depend on how fast you need your visa. These are the three options:

  • Standard processing – your visa application is processed only in 7 Business Days , and it has a total price of USD $121.49 (service fees included).
  • Rush processing – you will get your visa within 5 days, and the price to pay is USD $167.49 (all service fees are included).
  • Super rush processing – this is the fastest option at your disposal, that's why you'll get your Tourist e-Visa in 3 days, and you'll be charged USD $231.49 (all service fees included).

The prices for the different visa types are the same, except for the East Africa visa which is a bit more expensive. You will be charged $148, $178, and $213 respectively.

The form is easy to comprehend, and it should take you about 15 minutes to complete. If you need some help, iVisa has an excellent support service that can answer your questions 24/7.

It is easy to apply for the Uganda e-Visa . There are three steps you need to complete to receive your visa successfully:

  1. The first one requires you to fill in your personal information and some details about your trip. At this point, you must also choose a visa type (tourism, transit, East Africa visa), and the processing time. The best thing about iVisa is that it gives you the possibility to choose a processing time according to your timetable and your budget.

You need to make sure that all the information you provided is 100% accurate since mistakes are impossible to correct after your application reaches processing. As for payment, iVisa gives you the opportunity to use any means you have at hand, such as Paypal and credit/debit cards. No embassy will give you that
